The film we created called 'The Unknown' we believe is aimed at 18-30 year old, females more than males.
Before we started filming, we completed some research on target audience. Women in this age group with or without children may find it an interesting plot which is what we aimed to do for our audience For our final film the target audience is late teenagers and adults but more specifically 18-30 years old women. Our typical punters would be a woman aged between 18-30 this is because woman over the age of 18 watch thrillers and the plot of the film is about a woman who can't have children, which is more of a emotional story. We chose this age range because the target audience for thrillers is 18 and any grown woman may find our film very interesting as they might relate to it in some way.So woman with also can't have children can relate to this plot but also woman who have children can relate to the idea of theior child being child and what if that was their child. But not just woman aged 18-30 might watch this film as other types of people watch thrillers such as late teenagers and people in the earlier 20s who are mainly the target audience for thrillers.
This is picture of what our typical punter maybe as this woman looks to be between the age of 18-30 years old, which is specifically what we think our main target audience would apart from late teenagers or people in their earlier 20s who enjoy thrillers.
This girl/young woman is around 21 here and the things that she is interested in (her age in general) we researched and looked in to and tried to include the things that applied to the style we was doing in the film and interests of people this age into the finished film. The younger age of the target audience look for fast editing, things that catch their eye, bright colours, strange story lines etc in the thrillers they watch. So we included as many of those things in our thriller as we possibly could while still suiting the older end of the age range (24+) with, dark colours, softer editing, weird story lines, things to figure out, things that catch their eye. We found this information out in our target audience research, we asked family members within this age range and noted what they would look for in a good thriller and what makes a thriller a good one.
Many thrillers are a mixed genre a lot are thriller/horror but ours would come under thriller/mystery looking into the ratings on films like these they have rating on them of 15 or 18 meaning that their target audience is around that age and above. Our target audience are always looking for 'something different' they say, so to keep our film interesting we made sure we challenged a main convention of thrillers, using a woman as the stalker. In many thrillers its a male that holds a chase, but in our film it is the woman that is doing the chasing (stalking).
When Demi asked her mom (aged 38) she said that she looks for something that ends on a good note, not leaving her thinking about what could have happened next, she wants to know the end of the story and she expects the man to be doing the chase 'thats what a thriller is all about' she states. This shows that by making our target audience 18-30 we made the right decision as she also said 'i wouldn't now go to the cinema to watch a film, maybe if i was 10 years younger' and 10 years younger would make her in our target audience age range.
Looking at all the evidence our film should definitely be aimed at 18-30 year olds
