Above are screencaps of Storyboard Quick. We used Storyboard Quick to create our story for our final film instead of drawing out each of the scenes on the storyboard which is how storyboards were originally made. It was a lot easier and quicker to create our storyboard on Storyboard Quick as we were able to create the characters and make the locations suitable so that it is more realistic. The advantage of using storyboard quick is that you do not have to draw out each frame which could be very time consuming and you can also print off as many copies you need instead having to keeping drawing it out. So by using storyboard quick we saved time in the planning process to spend on creating a script or a treatment as well as gather feedback, we also gain experience in using this software whci we may need in the future.
Above are two screencaps for the program Final Cut Express. For editing we used Final Cut Express before this editing was done by cutting and pasting pieces of film together now it can be done on a computer so that it is easier and quicker to edit films, so by using Final Cut Express editing was made easier than cutting and pasting pieces of film, editing was also made quicker so that we had enough time to create a rough cut and improve it to create our final film. We used Final Cut Express to import our film and cut out the clips that we didn't need. Also we used it to make scenes shorter if we had made them to long when we were filming. Final Cut Express allows you to import as many scenes of your film as you would like and you are able to move clips around if they were in the wrong order.Also with final cut express you can edit parts that have already in the film if we are not happy with them or want to change them.You can also add soundtracks and effects to your film and make the sound more discreet. For example, the breathing in our film was very loud so we made it quieter using Final Cut Express. We were able to watch our film back on Final Cut Express and make any adjustments if we needed to.
Above are two screencaps for Final Draft av. Final Draft av is a program designed for writing and formatting two column scripts, this format uses two columns the one on the left for video cues and the one on the right for audio cues. This is another way of writing a script instead of writing it by hand as again you can print of as many copies that you need, instead of writing it out over again or just making do with only one copy between the actors and group. By using Final Draft av we could also embed a copy of our script onto our blogs.
Above are two screencaps of Soundtrack Pro. We used Soundtrack Pro to choose the soundtracks and ambient sounds for our film. We chose to add a soundtrack that would build up the suspense all through the film, and we also used ambient sounds of someone breathing heavily. Instead of having to record to sounds ourselfs which would of been much more time consuming to do or not have sound in which would of been less effective. As for a thriller one of the typical conventions is having music to create either tension or another mood of the viewer, so without the music being added in the film would not be as effective for the viewer to watch and we would not have include a typical thriller or film convention.
We used youtube to upload and show our final films, we also used it to embed our preliminary task and our animatic as well as a way to embed the our final film to our blogs, we also used youtube to embed film opening and trailers to look at conventions of thrillers and other films to compare them to. You can also use Youtube to gather feedback on our preliminary task and our rough cut so that we know how to improve for our final film.
We used blogger to document, edit and show our progress throughout the course as well as a way to show youtube videos of trailers and film opening to look at different conventions and embed our final film. We also included a copy of the storyboard, script and treatment so that everything is in one place.
We used Scribd to share our treatments and scripts with our group members and other people who use Scribd and to put the treatments and scripts onto our blogs.
We used Compressor inorder to compress our final film so that we could upload it on to You Tube so that we can embed it onto our blogs. We compressed our final film so that it will play better on You Tube and on our blogs and it also makes the film upload a bit faster.
We used a DV camera to film our final film and our prelim task throughout the course we learnt how to use the cameras better and we learnt tips on how to film better such as making sure you've got everything you need in the frame e.g. people heads, building and cars.
We used imacs during the course, my experience of using a imac for the first time was that I wasnt really sure how to use it as it was different to what I was used to. By using a imac we gained real life experience also by using a imac we had no software cability problems as all of the software that we used was already on the imacs .
Divshare We used Divshare as a way to listen to feedback off people about our treatment among other things. The way we did this was by posting recordings of what people said to Divshare, there we were able listen to the feedback and analyse it thoroughly because it was a video recording, so we were able to listen to it and pause the recording at any time so we could make notes on what people had suggested.
